Advertisements to Get Stoned and Watch

Every day we are inundated with advertising, but some of the cream rises to the top. These are beautiful, colorful, and fun (plus whomever set the soundtrack for each of these is a genius).

Two for Sony Bravia (give your advertising director a huge raise)--

http://adsoftheworld.com/media/tv/sony_bravia_pyramid : Aired in Egypt

http://www.bravia-advert.com/paint/thead/ : I'm not so sure about that clown

And one for Absolut Vodka, which I guess you could get drunk and watch instead--

http://ny.beam.tv/beamreels/reel_player.php?QYcMbRHWmV&getxip=true&xip=4b474744 : How great would it have been to shoot this?

paper, scissors, glue

It's amazing to see the creations that can come from the very simplest materials.

Hannah Stouffer for Grand Array

Besides having an incredible eye for details like baroque flourishes...

...and a great sense of color
(and apparently superhuman patience)...

... Hannah Stouffer also uses the word "flaneur" to describe herself on her web gallery, grandarray.com. And I like that in a woman.

Icon: Cate Blanchett

Besides striking a victory for pastiness, Cate Blanchett seems to me like she would be pretty cool to sit around and loll over Vogue and smoke a bowl with. I like that she keeps two completely diverse elements constant through many of her wardrobe choices: one, looking like she could possibly be from the future, and two, looking like she could possibly be from the 1940's. I bet that she has some interesting things to say about style and design between her sartorial decisions, the diverse and beautiful array of characters she's portrayed (a pedophiliac schoolteacher, a spoiled suburban Californian shot and trapped in the Middle Eastern desert, an elf, Bob motherfucking Dylan). She consistently picks difficult and completely choice roles, and, not least, is strikingly gorgeous despite looking like no other face in Hollywood.

Attention to Detail Is a Beautiful Thing

Thank god for Mui Mui and Prada releasing their gorgeous, multi-colored spectator pumps with their Fall 2007 lines, encouraging a trickle-down effect to smaller house designers. These shoes are intricate and well-crafted. It's about time-- handbags have been getting more pimped out for seasons.
